Care Shop Donates Hoist to Jorvik Warriors

Care Shop were recently approached to provide a quote for an electric hoist for a powerchair football club based in York, the Jorvik Warriors. We were lucky enough to be in a position to be able to donate a hoist which ideally suited the needs of the team.

The Jorvik Warriors were formed in 2015 and provide sporting opportunities for people with physical disabilities. As a charitable organisation funding can often be a struggle and with care not being specific to elderly people. we at Care Shop saw this as a chance to help younger people enjoy sport where they may have not been able to before. Sport is a great way of breaking down barriers regardless of physical condition, everybody should have the opportunity to play!

Powerchair football is a competitive team sport for disabled people who use powered wheelchairs. The is played in a sports hall using basketball court lines. Two teams of four players (including goalkeepers) use powerchairs equipped with footguards to attack, defend and spin-kick a 13 inch football in an attempt to score goals. USA are the current world champions with England beaten in the final in 2013. Fingers crossed for this year.

Martin, organiser at the Jorvik Warriors, was kind enough to give us a quote and explains how this hoist will help the team. "We are a power chair football club in York called Jorvik Warriors, we give a sporting opportunity to physical disabled people of all ages. The electric hoist which Care Shop kindly donated to us will make a massive difference to some of the players who have struggled with a manual hoist until now. And we cannot thank them enough."

The hoist donated was an Oxford Birdie 180 Electric Hoist and the difference between a manual and an electric hoist is massive. With a wide range of disabilities amongst the players assistance is always required and the electric hoist provides a much easier solution than having to use a manual hoist. Not only that but it makes the transfer of players between chairs much quicker, and therefore less inconvenient for the players themselves.

Care Shop offer a wide range of hoists for a wide range of uses, the full range can be seen here.
